For what these changes mean for you, read the 2026.10.17 release notes. The highlights:

  • Signed kernel and drivers: the RakuOS kernel is signed with the RakuOS key and loads only signed modules; out-of-tree drivers now come prebuilt and signed from the new signed-kmods repo, for every kernel and the Steam Deck kernel. VirtualBox, OpenRazer and MediaTek MT7927 Wi-Fi are opt-in.
  • Easy Anti-Cheat Linux v2 readiness: new boot arguments (lockdown, signature enforcement, IOMMU, kexec off), rakuos eac-check and the Anti-Cheat button in RakuOS System.
  • Boot menu: shim and GRUB updates from the image, a RakuOS rescue submenu, other operating systems added automatically, the GRUB theme installed with each update.
  • Nvidia Legacy images (580xx driver) on both channels; RPM Fusion off by default; the Hyprland edition and the gamescope (Steam Deck) image moved forward.
  • New documentation and AI-assistant docs, with an MCP server at rakuos.org/mcp; the website's docs and blog now live as files in the repository.
