These are all the commits that landed on main or staging in the RakuOS GitLab group (https://gitlab.com/rakuos) since the last changelog, grouped by component. Merge commits are left out, and a change applied to both branches is listed once. Entries marked (staging) haven't reached main yet.

For what these changes mean for you, read the 2026.10.26 release notes. The highlights:

  • Drivers are now opt-in, and follow the kernel:
    • The images ship only Broadcom Wi-Fi and v4l2loopback.
    • Every other signed driver installs from the new Drivers page in RakuOS System.
    • rum kmod-upgrade moves installed drivers to the new kernel's builds before each image update, and driver updates for a kernel you don't run yet are held back.
  • Kernel 7.3.0 (based on CachyOS 7.3.0-4) on both channels and the Steam Deck kernel. Images now carry an org.rakuos.kernel.release label.
  • Turn the overlay off and on from RakuOS System. rum and the Software Center respect the setting.
  • The Software Center:
    • The COSMIC frontend now draws on the GPU (so do RakuOS System, Welcome and the installer).
    • AppImage updates are fixed.
    • Terra and RPM Fusion apps are hidden while those repositories are off.
    • Automatic updates no longer ask for a password at login.
  • The Welcome app installs AppImages from GitHub, GitLab or a direct link. Epic Games Launcher and Xodus Nexus are added under Gaming.
  • RakuOS 45 "Chojiro" on staging:
    • oo7 replaces GNOME Keyring on every desktop.
    • KWallet now stores its secrets in oo7.
    • The consoles use kmscon.
    • Niri moves to DMS 2.0 with a shell switcher.
    • The Hyprland edition gets new pickers and Noctalia features.
  • The whole COSMIC desktop is built by RakuOS from upstream's epoch tags, as a 28-package CI chain.
  • New packages:
    • DamnationX, as a wrapper that downloads the official release.
    • Low-latency PipeWire defaults.
    • rum's dnf5-style repo overrides.
  • Image builds run on GitHub Actions, with the GitLab image repos mirrored to the RakuOS organisation on GitHub.

COSMIC Desktop Packages

The COSMIC desktop, built by RakuOS (new)
