System Requirements
RakuOS is a modern, image based Linux distribution. It runs comfortably on recent hardware, but you should check the requirements below before installing.
Minimum requirements
- 64 bit x86 (x86_64) processor, 2 cores or more
- 4 GB of RAM
- 40 GB of free disk space
- UEFI firmware (Secure Boot supported)
- Internet connection for updates and package installs
Recommended
- 64 bit x86 (x86_64) processor, 4 cores or more
- 8 GB of RAM or more
- 80 GB of free disk space or more, SSD or NVMe strongly recommended
- A GPU with open source or well supported proprietary drivers
Notes
- RakuOS is an atomic, image based system, so the root filesystem is read only outside of controlled updates. Plan your disk space with that in mind, most of your data will live under your home directory and /var/lib/rakuos (where overlay lives).
- 32 bit (i686) systems and ARM are not currently supported.
